WARNING: Due to a landslide last fall, highway UT-14 is closed from about mile 5 to 27 till summer of 2012, and this area cannot be reached by car from the west this winter. It can be reached from the east on UT-14.
This campground, which is closed in the winter, is at about mile 27 or 28 on highway UT-14 east of Cedar City and is about 2 miles west of the village of Duck Creek. The campground is on the north side of the road and there is usually a small parking area at the campground entrance or on the south side of the highway.
This campground does not have XC trails but is a good area in which to make your own trails. It has nice trees and rolling terrain and you can ski in and out among the campsites. In case you like skate-skiing and don't mind dodging an occasional snowmobile, there is a wide groomed snowmobile trail running through the campground, then across the highway into the forest south of the highway. Be careful and give the machines the right of way.
Two of the maps below, one a contour map and the other a photo map, show a possible ski path one could take along Duck Creek flowing to the east of the campground and ending at the east end of Aspen-Mirror Lake, about 2 miles each way. This path is unmarked and ungroomed, but the maps show GPS waypoints that can guide you. These coordinates also appear in the text file below. The path winds through scenic meadows and woods and at one point crosses Duck Creek, where you must be careful to cross only on a safe snow bridge if one exists.
