In October, 2007, Cedar Breaks Monument constructed a yurt made by Colorado Yurt Company. During the succeeding winters (2007-) it has been used as a winter ranger station and warming hut. It currently is staffed only on weekends, Fri.-Sun., 10AM-2PM, December through early April, by volunteers from the surrounding communities.
The location of the yurt is at the Alpine Pond Trailhead. (See our Cedar Breaks page to see how to get there on skis:
Cedar Breaks. )
It is located at the beginning of Alpine Pond XC ski trail, which is marked by orange poles in the winter. The yurt is NOT available for overnight stays at this time, except for some of the staffers who may need to stay overnight. Responsible volunteers who wish to help staff the yurt may contact Peg Simons (peg.simons[AT symbol]gmail.com), who is the Cedar Breaks Volunteer Coordinator. Staffing the yurt requires training and a fair amount of work. See staffing details on the Cedar Breaks website at
