Deer Hollow Grooming Report for 2/19/26

I flew solo today in some challenging grooming conditions.  24” – 36” of new snow blanketed the area between Midway and Deer Hollow.  In those conditions, all trails have to be “tracked” out with the snowcat before the tiller can be used to groom, otherwise the cat bogs down and flounders in the deep snow.  Having to pack out each trail before grooming takes extra time and fuel, so I tried to go for quality, not quantity.

All of the “perimeter” trails were groomed with corduroy, and classic tracks were set on most.  Groomed trails include the Hollow, Sinkhole, East Draw, Middle Draw, West Draw, Shady, Outback, Dolomite, the east Claron (from the East Draw to the Navajo Overlook), and Easy Street.

The “interior” trails remain ungroomed, including Aspen, Basalt, and Claron (west of East Draw).   Also, the snowshoe loop is not groomed due to a couple of large downed trees.

It was snowing hard when I left Deer Hollow, so things may be covered up, but the groomed trails have a solid base, and there’s plenty of opportunity for a “backcountry” skiing/snowshoeing experience on the ungroomed trails!
