About the Event

It’s on!

Trails at Deer Hollow are freshly groomed and the parking lot is plowed for our upcoming Community Ski Day on Saturday, 2/24. Club volunteers Topher and Steve spent the day laying corduroy on all trails (except that pesky Aspen Trail), and setting track on most. A bigger volunteer crew, plus Jess and Skyler from the Forest Service, will be back up there tomorrow (Friday) to freshen up the trails and prepare the base area for Saturday.

The weather should be decent and conditions are great, so come on up! If you’re new to XC skiing or always wanted to try it out, XC ski gear will be available at no charge from Cedar Sports and SUU Outdoors, and club volunteers are available to give free introductory lessons.

And a special thanks to Kaleb from UDOT for plowing out the parking lot!

See you Saturday!

This event is co-sponsored by the Cedar Mountain Nordic Ski Club, Cedar Sports Outdoor Gear and Rentals, Southern Utah University (SUU Outdoors), and the U.S. Forest Service. The purposes of the event are 1) to show off the great opportunities at Deer Hollow for Nordic skiing on groomed trails, in classic tracks, or in a backcountry setting, and for snowshoeing;  2) to introduce those who are new to the sport with FREE cross-country ski package rentals (offered by Cedar Sports, SUU Outdoors, and Topher Mason) and a FREE introductory lesson; and 3) to offer guided ski and/or snowshoe tours of the Deer Hollow trail system.

Club volunteers will be available to help skiers and snowshoers get started and to provide an introductory lesson. For more experienced skiers who are interested, intermediate lessons may be offered. Refreshments (hot chocolate and snacks) will be available!
